The afterlife has always intrigued me. What are heaven, hell, and purgatory like? To explore these questions, I turned to the most famous literary journey through the realms of the dead: The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri. Inspired by his guide Virgil, I imagined Dante as my companion in these fantastical worlds. Using Sumi ink and watercolor markers in an expressionist technique and single page visuals, I sketched my visions of the three domains on blank paper. I interpreted them as follows: Hell is a place of anxiety, where sinners suffer for their crimes. Purgatory is our world, where we are busy with time and life. Heaven is a realm of science and silence, where we hear the harmony of the universe. I invite you to join me on this adventure and see how I depict these imaginary landscapes.
